The Triangle restaurant scene in North Carolina is on the rise, earning attention from national publications, industry groups and the James Beard Foundation. The food and dining writer will be responsible for breaking news related to the dining scene, from openings and closings to trends, chef profiles, food truck news and overall food culture. The writer also will spend time on food stories related to cooking and recipes. This includes local, regional and state trends in home cooking, nutrition and agriculture as well as stories on cookbooks, holiday food, Southern culinary traditions and more. The reporter must be active on social media. Cooking experience is helpful but not required. Note: This is not a critic job.
The successful Food Writer always follows the N&O Ethics Policy. Understands and applies open government laws. Uses proper grammar and demonstrates awareness of AP and N&O stylebooks. Familiarity with CCI/Newsgate preferred. Must be able to type. CAR skills. Must be able to file stories and other content on deadline from the office, home or on the road.
